On October 31, 2017, CIETAC Shanghai Sub-Commission launched ‘CIETAC Shanghai Forum’ in Shanghai, and held the first activity under the forum, namely, the subject lecture on ‘Award Thinking and Considerations of Complicated Financial Investment Dispute Cases’. About 70 persons include lawyers, arbitrators and inhouse-councils from financial institutions such as China International Capital Corporation, Standard Charted bank, Bank of China, Citibank, BNP Paribas, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation, Bank of Shanghai, Development Bank of Singapore, J.P. Morgan Chase&Co., HSBC, and so on, attended the lecture. Mr. Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC, spoke at the lecture, and introduced to participants the latest development of CIETAC and CIETAC Shanghai Sub-Commission and the advantages of CIETAC arbitration in dealing with financial investment disputes.

Mr. Chen Han, arbitrator of CIETAC was particularly invited to preside over the lecture. CIETAC Arbitrator Mr. Tao Xiuming gave an excellent introduction and explanation from aspects such as status quo of contract breaching disputes in investment and financing market in recent years, appropriate adjudication aim of financial investment disputes, positioning quantitative analysis and consideration factors, the influence of the newest financial regulatory policy on making of awards on financial investment cases, analysis of practical cases, and so on, and answered the questions raised by the participants. The lecture achieved full success.

CIETAC Shanghai Forum will be a comprehensive publicizing and service platform of CIETAC Shanghai Sub-Commission in Shanghai. It will not only invite legal and business professionals to jointly hold activities such as seminars, lectures, salons, and so on, to discuss the theoretical and practical issues of law and arbitration, but also provide parties with easier access to understanding CIETAC arbitration service through the online Wechat platform.

The activity was the first event held at the new address of CIETAC Shanghai Sub-Commission. The newly-decorated CIETAC Shanghai Sub-Commission was equipped with hearing rooms, panel discussion rooms, reception rooms, multi-purpose rooms, and lounge for parties. Moreover, the hearing rooms were equipped with advanced audio-visual facilities, which could provide high-quality service in a more efficient manner.
